women for water is a Global Water Challenge platform committed to supporting the empowerment of women and girls through water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) and life skills programs across 10,000 communities by 2030. As a multi-partner, multi-media platform, women for water drives collective action through brand and consumer engagement, mass awareness, advocacy, and channeling investment for impact in high-need communities globally.
women for water is currently supporting projects across Europe, the Middle East and Africa with a pipeline of projects being developed in Latin America and Asia. Our partners are working in 12 countries, ranging from Kyrgyzstan and Georgia to Rwanda and Pakistan. GWC is excited to continue expanding the women for water footprint in 2020 to reach as many women, girls, and their communities as possible by 2030.
Based on the evidence generated by our 2018 Ripple Effect Study, Global Water Challenge set out to mobilize investment to enable women’s empowerment through water. Enter: women for water. In short, we do what we do because when women have access to safe water access and sanitation, they are healthier, stronger, safer, educated, employed, heard, and empowered.
Women often have fewer opportunities in their communities, particularly those related to education and employment. They also bear greater health risks, have more responsibility in their homes and diminished voices in their communities. We know from the wide-ranging experience of women for water’s founding organization, Global Water Challenge, that reliable access to clean water transforms the livelihoods of women, their families, and their communities.
